More work in progress from 2 for Joy – graphite on watercolour paper
2 for Joy
Heading to the studio to continue work on the new piece, getting back to basics with some drawing both in the studio and at life class… yesterday’s drawing was a long struggle – but a good one. The piece will form part of an ongoing series developed from the wing assignment piece ‘1 for sorrow’ which will be showing at the smokehouse gallery from Thursday pv @ 7pm (see post below). Each piece will be an interpretation of the Rhyme 1 for sorrow 2 for joy… more information about this piece to follow.

Forman’s Smokehouse Gallery and East Village London in collaboration with Art Catcher Ltd present you with works by 50 artists from Great Britain and beyond, working in painting, printmaking, photography, collage moving image and sculpture, expressing an unusual and delightful array of interpretations.
Exhibiting artists include including Adam Graff (Images 36 ‘The best of British illustration’ competition 2012), Carne Griffiths (Cle De Peau’s 30th anniversary exhibition, co-ordinated by Alvin Goh, Hong Kong 2012), Louiz Kirkebjerg-Nielsen (International Printmaking Biennial of Douro, Portugal, 2012, and Qijiang International Print Festival 2011), Sumi Perera (1st Prize-Drawing for Design-Rootstein Hopkins Foundation Drawing Exhibition, London 2011), Jens Marott (Silver Prize London Photographic Awards “Let’s face it” competition 2011), Martin Mossop (John Purcell Paper Prize at the Bainbridge Open in 2011), Fabienne Teyssier-Monnot (Claude Berthault Price in Sculpture 2010, Chongqing, China), and Wuon Gean Ho (Birgit Skiold Memorial Trust Prize 2010).
It’s nice to be back posting work here – been working on some great commissions including the just finished series of collaboration work with photographer Rankin for Hunger Magazine – look out for it in May! -So everything is a little crazy right now – hence the title of the new work – it’s good to be busy but it’s great to know I have some time to get serious in the studio

JOYCE Collaboration
JOYCE have launched their latest project featuring artwork from 5 international artists including Devin McGrath, Simon Prades, Violeta Hernández, Vasilj Godzh and Myself
The brief was to create a piece of work which evoked the mood of spring. I created the artwork above using calligraphy inks and tea. For this particular project I worked with a very pale white tea to keep colours clean and used a minimal amount of graphite. The scanned artwork was then applied to the product by the design team at JOYCE. I have included a couple of visuals and roughs that I worked up at the development stage of the project above. The original artwork will be on show later this year as part of a new collection of work.
Eden Photoshoot
Sunday was the final day of Eden and to mark the end of the exhibition photographer Arta Kane arranged a photoshoot combining the 2 week installation artwork with 2 models and a collection of donated plants from the Stone Space’s visitors. Below is a quick slideshow of snaps taken by me from the shoot. I will be sharing the amazing work of photographer Arta Kane in the next post. Busy as ever in the studio with some interesting and demanding commissions, will reveal more soon.

Eden Preview – Painting in Tea @ Debut Contemporary Sat 25th Feb
Very excited about tomorrow’s drawing event. On Saturday 25th feb (tomorrow!) I will be packing up my assorted teas, pens and paintbrushes and heading over to Notting Hill for a day of painting in ink and tea at Debut Contemporary. Debut have kindly let me use their window space as a studio for the day and as spring is just around the corner (fingers crossed) I thought I would take some floral inspiration to create a new piece of work in the space. Hopefully I will have worked out the technology to broadcast some of the drawing via webcam, but if you can make it along to the gallery for a cup of tea you’ll be able to enjoy the whole experience aroma and all!!
There will also be work available for sale starting from £5 for postcard packs, prints and original works of art. Also available will be the newly released print Choke taken from the violence of flowers series, accompanied by a selection of original floral works.
Will post pictures of the event tomorrow evening online, but hope to see you there if you can make it.
Choke 15″ x 24″ on 310 gsm Hahnemuhle Etching Paper, ltd edition of 25 available here
Also available from Art Republic, Eyestorm , Inkd Gallery and Opus.
