Rose – Finished Piece from the Harvest

Decided not to work too much into this, there was enough rose leaf and enough suggestion of the overall form to leave the outer pencil marks to describe the shape.  Again this piece is drawn from a reference image and has marked a departure from the automatic process, the leaves and foliage are all drawn from memory / free although I have been making studies inbetween large pieces.

This piece is worked in brown havana ink with blue waterman ink, tea and water on stretched bockingford watercolour paper.Rose - finished image

New lightbox piece

Tried a new technique today to allow more light to bleed through the watercolour paper – enabling me to select more transparent areas and describe light shapes – decided to make this ‘bulb’ light box – MOTHS – which appear as the bulb is switched on.

Venue for arts trail

I have been fortunate enough to secure the Luna Lounge venue for the Arts trail in Leytonstone which has distinct advantages for the lightbox work I am now producing – Firstly there are 3 or 4 large scale lightboxes already installed on the walls of the Luna Lounge which I can slip work into and secondly the lighting is perfect for seeing through the postcard boxes.  I have now constructed 3 new lightboxes to house the postcard project and am embarking on a series of work exploring the theme of secrecy and the unseen which will use a similar format.    Below are sample images of the three boxes in daylight and with the internal lights switched on to show through the postmarks and wording on the reverse – these boxes are currently for sale at £100.00 each contact art@100sqft.co.uk

Leytonstone Arts Trail

Looking forward to getting involved with this years LAT – particularly with 100sqft but also with the great ‘let’s fill leytonstone with art’ which encourages individuals in the borough to display artwork in their windows.
Sounds like a great idea and a great opportunity to play with the lightbox idea on a large scale!! looking forward to see what people show!
